Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga is the linkage of one asana into the next, but is much more than a set of physical maneuvers, it the dynamic combination of our internal and external worlds.  It is a subtle expression of the life force, or prana.  Vinyasa creates the balance we need to create a stress free life.  This is done by combining breath and movement.  This combination helps to free the mind of unwanted thoughts and allows the spirit to shine through.

The principles of Ashtanga are based on the Eight Limbs of Yoga:

  • Yama: Ethical Disciplines
  • Niyama: Self Observation
  • Asana: Posture
  • Pranayama: Breath Control
  • Pratyahara: Sense withdrawal
  • Dharana: Concentration
  • Dhyana: Meditation
  • Samadhi: A state of joy and peace
